Scott’s remarks came earlier this week after visiting Jamaica and the Dominican Republic where he met with the leadership of both nations to explore how the institution can expand its work and deepen partnership.

On Wednesday, Nathan met with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and members of his cabinet, where he emphasized DFC’s commitment to advancing shared priorities in heavy infrastructure, manufacturing, food security, health care, and small business support. The high-level meeting also discussed investing in climate adaptability and energy security in line with the U.S.-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030), which was announced by Vice President Kamala Harris at the Summit of the Americas in June 2022.

Mr Nathan also participated in a business roundtable to explore the potential investments in energy, health, manufacturing, and information and communications technology with Jamaica-based companies.

The CEO noted that DFC is working to open an office in the region to increase investment in private sector development in Jamaica and other partner countries across the Caribbean.

He completed his visit to the region with a stop in the Dominican Republic.

At the Presidential Palace in Santo Domingo, Nathan announced a $200 million loan to support the financing of small businesses, as well as DFC’s plan to open a new office based in the Dominican Republic capital focused on increasing regional investment.

“This is an exciting time for DFC in the Caribbean. This trip highlighted our strong belief at DFC that our work with governments, businesses, and investors in this region has tremendous potential. We are committed to building on this foundation,” CEO Nathan said. “The bottom line is this: We are here, we want to be here, and we want to do more.”
