Four of the six – all relatives – had just arrived in Jamaica from the United States on what Old Harbour News understand to be a family vacation.

They were picked up at the Norman Manley International Airport by another relative and were being transported to the family home in St Elizabeth when the unfortunate happened.

Just after departing the Vineyards Toll Plaza the vehicle transporting them ran out of petrol in the Smith Avenue area of Old Harbour, a police report detailed.

This was about 11:30 pm yesterday.

While deciding their next step, two men armed with gun appeared from bushes nearby and robbed them of cash and personal items valued around half-a-million Jamaican dollars.

Some of the items reported stolen include jewelry, mobile phones and laptops. US passports belonging to one of the women – said to be a 36 year-old mother – and her two children were also taken by the robbers. The gunmen also took the Jamaican passport of another woman, who is a US resident and native of St Elizabeth. The woman’s sister and the driver of the rented motor vehicle – both of whom traveled from St Elizabeth to receive the family upon their arrival, were robbed of cash amounting to more than J$20,000 and their cellular phones.

Detectives are urging persons with information to contact the police.

Investigation continues.
