The event was held on June 12 and managed in complete different circumstance due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic around the world.  As a result this year’s staging was executed by appointment only in keeping with social distance protocols established by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. In previous years more than 500 residents would benefit.

One hundred and twelve residents benefited from the free service on offer, including a $2,500 subsidy towards the total cost of the beneficiaries pharmaceuticals.

The team of doctors included general practitioners, a pediatric resident and an obstetrician/gynaecologist.

“Following each visit, our volunteers led those who received prescriptions to the pharmacy area, where the pharmacy technician/pharmacist scanned and sent their scripts to Pharmacy Plus located in Old Harbour Bay. The Company spent a little over J$221,000 for prescription drugs for all residents,” the JEP said.

Residents also received giveaways, which included diabetic starter kits, eyeglasses, hygiene kits, lip balms, walkers/rollators, pain medication and skin ointments courtesy of Food for the Poor.

National Health Fund also provided gift bags with fabric totes, water bottles, pens, notebooks, pill counters and stress balls.

“We laud the efforts of all doctors, pharmacists and volunteers, the Family Planning Board, PICA and RGD teams who made this event, no matter how small, a great success,” said the private energy company. “They joined us in demonstrating the usual kindness to the people of Old Harbour Bay and the true spirit of volunteerism.

“We at Jamaica Energy Partners are grateful for the opportunity to cater to the medical needs of the Old Harbour Bay residents even amid a pandemic. We look forward to another successful staging next year.”
