Jamaica must wake up now and come out of its fantasy

I was reading through a Wednesday paper where I came across an article on Ananda Dean. I saw the smiling innocence on her face but was grabbed also by the contrasting portrait of that of her father on the other side of the page. His inner being reflects sadness and limitless sorrow. I felt his pain. No one must suffer so much pain after all the struggle you have to go through with the upbringing of your child, working and hoping for the best for them and to see her struck down so brutally it is not easy.

I can see he felt dejected maybe because society failed him twice. One: when his daughter went missing and no one presumably saw; and two: after 10 years, there is still no justice for his little girl. And what about all the other children who have also gone missing or killed? What the police and the justice system have done for those poor victims? Nothing, if you ask me. The perpetrators are still out there bussing champagne an’ a sing seh ‘a yah so nice’ and toasting to the backward justice system.

We the people of this country have to stop and look into ourselves because what is happening is not ‘Predita’ coming from outa space committing these heinous acts against us, it is us doing it to ourselves.

You can see the sick mentality of the country when it reaches this state where our children are abducted, rape and butchered like dogs. The next monster that’s hurting our children is human trafficking, where our children are force to work in some unthinkable profession and I can’t imagine what those poor innocent babies are going through. Any nation that has pleasure in preying on its future leaders has no morals and no vision. What is causing all this disgusting behavior in my opinion is an insatiable appetite for flesh and money.

As I was writing this article I heard reports of two murder/suicides. It’s just unbearable now to see that the man dem can’t control their emotions, killing the woman dem ova what is theirs. But what hurts more is that one of these acts was done right in front of a child. Whatever the circumstance; wasn’t she the mother of your child? Give her the chance to live so she can bring up your child. I know that the child would rather have both of her parents alive but living separated would be better than having none. That child must resent you to eternity because she knows you’re the one who conceptualized and initiated this gruesome act. You had no love or compassion. All you were thinking about is your ‘ugly’ self.

The society must wake up now and come out of its fantasy and face reality that Jamaica is not just sun and fun, but we have some serious psychological diseases embedded deep into the immune system of this country. Fear has taken over every one but we can always look aside until it reaches our door.

Lest we continue to be like an ostrich who when in danger run and hide its head in a hole  and its enormous body is left exposed; because what will eventually happen is that it will still get shot and only when that do happen to us we will become fully awake.
