The announcement was made on September 21, 2022, in New York ahead of the replenishment of the fund.
According to information from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, for the period 2019-2021, Jamaica received US$9.9 million from the global fund to assist with its various initiatives in its effort to preserve the gains made through its HIV programme and to increase access especially to vulnerable groups.

“Over the last few years, funds to fight HIV/AIDS have been dwindling and so I am happy to see countries coming together once again to put this important issue on the forefront. The AHF has been a part of this fight for decades and we will continue to provide as much support as we can,” said Caribbean Regional Director, Dr. Kevin Harvey.

AHF President, Michael Weinstein said “the global fund has demonstrated remarkable nimbleness in keeping existing programmes going while mobilizing new resources for COVID-19. The global fund also values the role of non-governmental and community organizations in creating a more equitable and sustainable public health system. We hope this pledge encourages wealthy donor countries, NGOs, and the private sector to contribute their fair share to the fund so that it can meet or exceed the fundraising goal of $18 billion".

On September 21, 2022, donors gathered in New York to announce their commitments, including wealthy G7 and G20 countries. More than US$14.25 billion has so far been raised of the US$18 billion target. The funding is vital for ensuring the fund can continue its lifesaving work and expand its mandate to address other existing and future global public health challenges.

AHF works in synergy with 31 global fund-supported countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe, by implementing HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment delivery, and advocacy programs and providing AHF Fund grants to assist other non-profit organizations. The $10 million pledge will represent another facet of the collaboration with the fund.
