Cricket West Indies (CWI) has confirmed that spinner Akeal Hosein and emerging all-rounder Jyd Goolie face delays joining the squad for the T20 Internationals against England and Ireland due to recent changes in UK visa rules for Trinidad and Tobago nationals.

The updated requirements, enforced on April 23 and May 12, mandate in-person visa appointments, a hurdle for the players, who were selected after the policy shift.

Miles Bascombe, CWI’s Director of Cricket, stated: “As soon as the updated visa requirements were announced, CWI began the necessary application processes. This was only possible after Akeal returned to Trinidad, and following the confirmation of Jyd’s selection to the Ireland squad", said Bascombe. "Akeal, who was selected for both the England and Ireland legs of the tour, was granted permission to fulfill his commitments with the extended Pakistan Super League until mid-May. Jyd was called up for the Ireland series after Roston Chase was named Test captain on May 16. Chase was set to leave the UK to join the Test camp in Barbados, creating an opening in the squad. However, Jyd was unable to secure the required visa waiver, as the transition period for Trinidad and Tobago residents had already expired."

Hosein, initially picked for both the England and Ireland legs, is still awaiting clearance, while Goolie, a late addition after Roston Chase was named Test captain, could not secure a waiver. CWI sought expedited processing but emphasized timelines depend on UK authorities.

Chase will now stay with the T20 squad before linking up with the Test team ahead of the Australia series.

England defeated the West Indies by 21 runs in the first T20 international in Chester-le-Street to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

CWI thanked fans for their patience and remains hopeful Hosein will feature in later matches.
