According to DSP Mark Harris, commander in charge of the police sub-division of Old Harbour, the three suspects are known to the police, adding they have been “under police radar for some time now and were in police custody as recent as 2022 and 2023”.

But DSP Harris says investigators are not ready to release the names of the suspects at this time.

The deceased has been identified as Kirkland Anderson, 34, a resident of Blackwood Gardens, Old Harbour Bay.

Police report stated that sometime after 8:00 pm, Anderson was in his white Toyota Succeed taxi when he was attacked by armed gunmen who shot him multiple times.

He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

Back at the scene where a large crowd had converged, detectives say they have recovered 10 spent casings among other material evidence that will now form a crucial part of the investigation.

The motor vehicle has also been seized by the police pending further investigation, while the body was later removed to a morgue for postmortem examination.

Earlier today colleagues of Anderson staged a peaceful protest in response to his death. A convoy of taxis that ply the Old Harbour town to Old Harbour Bay route turned on their headlights and honk their horns in a procession that went through the town and several communities throughout the island’s largest fishing community.

Correction: In our original report we stated three suspects are in police custody. However, this is not so at this time. We regret this error.
