The multibillion-dollar Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project (SCHIP) is now 90% complete, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Robert Morgan, has announced.

Speaking at Wednesday’s (April 30) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, Minister Morgan reported that work on Part A – the May Pen to Williamsfield toll road extension – has been finished, with tolling suspended for the past several months as a public benefit.

Additionally, he confirmed that Part B-2 (Harbour View to Yallahs Bridge), a four-lane highway, is now open to traffic, along with Part B-3 and 4 (Yallahs to Port Antonio and Morant Bay to Cedar Valley), a two-lane highway divided into three segments.

In other developments, the Minister revealed that Cabinet recently approved the US$81-million Port Antonio Bypass, which aims to reduce traffic congestion, spur development, and improve access to the eastern parish.

Meanwhile, the $1-billion Grange Lane dualisation project in St. Catherine is 92% complete and on track for a June finish. Cabinet has also greenlit the $2.4 billion upgrade of Braeton Road to part of the Hellshire main road, with construction set to begin in June under contractor S&G Limited.
