At a handing over ceremony this morning, the drug-dispensary company donated a modern NordicTrack Z 1300i treadmill valued in excess of $180,000.

“Prescription Plus Pharmacy has been a part of the Jamaica Fire Brigade family for approximately five years. We salute and commend you as providers of essential services to the over 35000 persons you serve in Old Harbour. Your work although at times very demanding and physically taxing, at other times may lead to poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. As such, we at Prescription Plus Pharmacy want to offer more than just the dispensing of medication. We want to focus on your wellbeing,” said Loraine Nesbeth, proprietor, Prescription Plus Pharmacy.

Thirty-two assigned firefighters will now have the benefit of optimizing their fitness levels, general health and productivity using the popular NordicTrack treadmill programmed with 32 preset workouts and a maximum speed control of 12 mph.

“So, in this regard,” Nesbeth added “we are donating this state-of-the-art treadmill to contribute to your cardiovascular wellness. We are encouraging you to utilize and take care of this machine and let it signify the beginning of accumulating other equipment that will contribute to your physical wellbeing.”

Acting Senior Deputy Superintendent, at the St Catherine Fire Department, Joshua Davis, said the gesture is a classic case of a ‘stitch in time that save nine’ an old phrase that means it is best to fix a problem immediately than wait until it gets too big.

“With all the stresses going on right now, with a machine like this, this is a stress reliever and it has come right on time. We didn’t have anything like this before, so we are so happy and thankful for Prescription Plus. This will boost our firefighter’s energy level so when they go out there they can perform at optimum level,” said the senior firefighter.

While lauding the initiative, Member of Parliament Everald Warmington said “this is an example being set” and “not very often this happen but we are grateful”.

Nesbeth said her company is currently assessing other possibilities that will bolster its relationship with Old Harbour firefighters “as we seek to focus on not just providing medication for you and your dependents, but focusing on your whole wellbeing”.
