A 63-year-old Old Harbour man was today found not guilty in the St Circuit on charges of sexual misconduct against his step-daughter who was below the age of consent at the time.

The eight-day trial which began February 11, saw a seven-member jury returning a unanimous verdict of not guilty, after the defense team led by Carole Phillips of the law firm Donahue Martin Jr & Co was successful in testing the credibility of the virtual complainant as well as other crown witnesses.

Allegations before the court are that in April 2024 the accused performed sexual acts on his step-daughter.

The matter was reported to the Old Harbour police and the step-father charged with grievous sexual assault and indecent assault.

Under state law the identities of both accused and complainant had to be concealed as the matter involved a minor.
