The Old Harbour & Friends Association (OHFA) is set to host its landmark 33rd Anniversary Spring Ball on Saturday, May 23, 2026, promising an evening of elegance, reunion, and philanthropy in Queens Village, New York City.

This year’s festivities carry a special significance as the organization prepares to honour a pillar of education, Lynton Weir, principal of Old Harbour High School.

The annual gala serves as the association’s premier showcase and primary fundraiser, traditionally drawing a vibrant cross-section of the diaspora. Organizers expect a full house of friends and associates traveling from Jamaica, Canada, England, and across the United States, all gathering for a grand reunion of families and old friends who cherish this annual touchpoint.

Proceeds from the event will directly support the association’s ongoing mission to foster development in the Old Harbour communities, primarily through its robust grants and scholarships programme and assistance for healthcare needs.

Weir will lead the night’s honour roll, recognized for his profound contributions to education and community development in his role as principal of Old Harbour High School. In a unique twist, the veteran educator of more than 30 years, will not only be the evening’s honouree but will also serve as the keynote speaker, offering attendees a chance to hear directly from the man at the helm of one of Jamaica’s renowned educational institutions.

“We are thrilled to honor Mr. Weir, whose dedication to shaping young minds has had a ripple effect throughout our community,” said an OHFA representative. “His leadership at Old Harbour High School embodies the very values we seek to support through our work.”

The evening will also shine a spotlight on the fruits of the association’s labour by highlighting its grants and scholarship recipients, several of whom are expected to be in attendance. To date, OHFA has awarded 10 full scholarships and over 70 grants. While the association acknowledges it cannot track every grant recipient, they report with pride that those they remain in contact with are excelling in their respective fields.

The 33rd Anniversary Spring Ball is a formal affair set to begin at 9:00 pm. Tickets are priced at $150 per person in advance, or $160 at the door, with admission being all-inclusive.

Organizers extend a warm welcome to all members of the community and beyond to join in celebrating a night of purpose, heritage, and recognition.
