Dixon, a former three-time national junior champion now in his first year as a senior, was chosen by the Jamaica Cycling Federation (JCF) along with Melaika Russell, who is among the top female riders in country. They will depart the island on June 1 for the two-week camp which seeks to improve their overall professional development as athletes of the sport.
In a statement, Dixon, who represents Elevation Cycling Club based here in Old Harbour, said: "I am incredibly honoured and grateful to have been selected to participate in this international training camp in Trinidad. This opportunity represents a major step forward in my cycling career, and I do not take it for granted. Training alongside top athletes and coaches from across the region will allow me to sharpen my skills, gain valuable experience, and elevate my performance to the next level.
“I intend to make the most of this camp by absorbing every lesson, pushing my limits, and building connections with fellow cyclists who share the same passion and drive. This is not just a chance to improve as an athlete but also to represent Jamaica with pride and show the world the talent and determination we have to offer.
“I want to thank my coaches, family, and supporters who have helped me reach this point. Your belief in me fuels my motivation, and I promise to give my absolute best in Trinidad. This is just the beginning, and I’m ready to work hard and make my country proud."
Club president Velana Creary added: “Being chosen for such a high-level programme reflects not only Jaequan’s hard work but also the strong support of our club’s coaches, teammates, and the entire cycling community behind them. We have no doubt that this opportunity will further sharpen his skills, broaden his experience, and inspire him to reach even greater heights in the sport.
“On behalf of the Elevation Cycling Club, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Jaequan Dixon. We are incredibly proud to see one of our own recognized on the international stage and look forward to cheering him representing club and country with distinction.”
