Old Harbour native and resident Israel Hyatt has been named among Scotiabank’s top bankers. He topped the elite list in the premium category along with Kristopher Thompson, who won the personal banker of the year. Both gentlemen were recognised at the bank’s annual Best of the Best Awards Luncheon held recently at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

Hyatt, a premium relationship officer, swept all three categories – top individual award, culture catalyst award and trip winner. The event rewards exceptional performance of members, who would have exceeded all their targets set out at the beginning of year in keeping with Scotia’s value and culture.

“To be recognized as Scotia's best means everything to me as I am a role model for my three sons and I always encourage them to be their best in all aspects of their lives,” Hyatt said in an Old Harbour News exclusive. “So to be recognized I am a living example for them and others looking on who look up to me.”

His extraordinary accomplishment has earned him a one-week trip to the Domincan Republic where he will team up with Scotiabanks’s ‘Best of the Best’ trip winners from across the world.
It’s the third time Hyatt, who has been a Scotiabank employee since 2008, is winning the award. In 2014 he swept all three categories, while last year he managed to secure the top individual award.

As premium relationship officer Hyatt, 40, leads a team that manages a portfolio of over 400 clients.

Reflecting on what is certainly a remarkable year and life-long journey, Hyatt pointed to his desire of always wanting to work at Scotiabank, innate personal ambitions and how he was raised, as catalysts that drives him to go the extra mile.

“Being a man and doing so well in my job and pursuing the career I always aspire to be doing as a little boy makes me very proud of myself.

“As a little boy I grew up in the community of Red Ground and with my mother being a teacher and always supporting my dreams, she ensured I got the proper education I needed to pursue my career dreams,” said the Marlie Mount Primary, Old Harbour High and Northern Caribbean University past student.

He added: “When walking to and from high school I always had to walk past the Scotiabank in Old Harbour and always visualize myself working at the bank.

“I am very proud of my accomplishments as I have always being able to overcome the challenges that comes my way ‘in my pursuit of excellence’ which is my high school’s motto and one thing in which was imbedded in me growing up as a little boy attending high school.”

During a question and answer segment of the function, Hyatt, revealed that he aspires to become a Scotiabank branch manager in the near future.

“I am able to be doing so well because of the passion I have for my job. I am doing what I always wanted to do as a child. I love my job and daily I am able to give a 150 percent on my job to achieve the desired results I set for myself. I am always raising the bar after achieving the personal targets I set for myself.

“Proud is considered an understatement of how I am truly feeling about my accomplishments I have achieved in my career to date,” he said.
